A wafter should float, but sink slowly with the weight of a hook. This balances the wafter and makes it ripple. As it floats when a fish is feeding, it will rise faster than a standard bottom bait in the fish's mouth, resulting in more hooks. If it sinks without the weight of the hook, it's not a wafter, but a normal sinking bait that won't work as a wafter should. Always check your wafter in a tub of water before using it.
